Erio Tosatti
theoretical physicist, professor emeritus SISSA
After graduating with honours in physics from the University of Modena and obtaining a postgraduate diploma in physics, also with honours, from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa in 1970, he worked as a researcher for the CNR at La Sapienza University in Rome, spending several years in Cambridge, Stuttgart and Stanford. From California, he was invited to Trieste in 1976 by Nobel laureate Abdus Salam and Paolo Budinich to set up the theoretical physics of matter research group at the ICTP, of which he was director between 2002 and 2003, and with which he continues to collaborate. Since 1980, he has been a professor at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), where he founded a research group on condensed matter theory.
