Silvia Rotondi

Silvia M. C. Rotondi is a postdoctoral researcher who earned her PhD in Physics and Nanoscience from the University of Genoa, focusing on bio-organic/inorganic interfaces for biosensor design. Specialized in DNA-based surface functionalization, she employs, among other techniques, Atomic Force Microscopy, Spectroscopic Ellipsometry, and Quartz Crystal Microbalance to fully characterize sensing platforms. Currently, she designs surfaces to enable the parallel detection of airborne viral particles. Her project is carried out between the Joint Research Centre in Ispra (VA – Italy) and Elettra Synchrotron Trieste, within the framework of the CERIC-ERIC consortium. Alongside her scientific research, she has carried out a STEM outreach project to raise awareness among primary school students. Aimed especially at young girls, the project seeks to promote equal opportunities and dismantle gender stereotypes in physics.
