Nicola Marzari
Cavendish professor of Physics University of Cambridge, chair of Theory and Simulations of Materials EPFL and PSI
Nicola Marzari holds a degree in Physics from the University of Trieste and a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge. He is Cavendish Professor of Physics at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College; previous appointments include the Toyota Chair at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (where he received tenure) and the inaugural Statutory Chair of Materials Modelling at the University of Oxford. Until 2026 he held the Chair of Theory and Simulation of Materials at EPFL, where he also directed the National Centre on Computational Design and Discovery of Novel Materials MARVEL and the Laboratory for Materials Simulations at the Paul Scherrer Institute. His research is dedicated to the development and application of electronic-structure simulations to understand, predict, and design the properties and performance of novel materials and devices.
