Alessandro Baraldi

Alessandro Baraldi is Full Professor of Experimental Physics of Matter and Applications at the University of Trieste. He is head of the Nanoscale Materials Laboratory at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, where he coordinates the research activities of his group, focusing on the study of the physical and chemical properties of materials at the sub-nanometric scale. His research interests range from the analysis of growth processes and the characterization of the ever-expanding family of two-dimensional materials to the study of the structural, electronic and chemical properties of atomic clusters with nuclearity controlled down to the single atom. For more than thirty years, he has exploited the extraordinary potential of synchrotron light to investigate, at the atomic level, the properties of these materials, which are believed to be capable of playing a fundamental role in the development of future technologies.
