Luca Bortolussi
professor of Computer science and director of the AI Lab University of Trieste
Luca Bortolussi is currently a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Trieste, where he leads the AI Lab. He was Associate Professor (2015–2021) and Assistant Professor (2006–2015) at the same university. In 2014–2015, he was Professor of Modelling and Simulation at Saarland University, and a visiting professor in 2026 and from 2018 to 2021. In 2012, he was a visiting researcher at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. He earned his degree in Mathematics from the University of Trieste in 2003 and completed a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Udine in 2007. His research interests focus on artificial intelligence, including symbolic and formal methods in computer science, probabilistic machine learning and deep learning, simulation, and control. He also works on cyber-physical systems, collective adaptive systems, explainable AI, and various applications in medicine, insurance, industry, sustainability, and climate change.
