Fausto Guzzetti

Fausto Guzzetti is Professor of Hazard and Risk at the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience, Durham University, UK, and Senior Associate Researcher at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies “Enrico Magenes” of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). He directed the CNR Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection (IRPI) and served as Director of Technical-Scientific Activities for Risk Prediction and Prevention at the Italian Department of Civil Protection. A geologist with a PhD in Geography, he works on landslide mapping, hazard and risk assessment, rainfall thresholds, forecasting, early warning, GIS, remote sensing and AI applications. He has coordinated national and European research projects and co-founded the Natural Hazards Division of the EGU. His awards include the EGU Soloviev Medal and the Varnes Medal of the International Consortium on Landslides.
