What is knowledge? It is a web of understanding across space and time, usually reaching across disciplines; it takes effort and builds up in layers; it cannot be improvised, but has to be constructed; and it is always a network: nobody knows anything alone, but draws on what others know in order to move forward, often by applying existing knowledge in new fields – all of this in a culture that, for the sake of simplicity, tends to favour whatever is clearly understandable and neatly filed under a single subject. Knowledge is hybrid by vocation. A talk with musical interludes and short interviews.

Artificial intelligence is redefining economic competitiveness, the functioning of institutions, and the relationship between technological innovation and democratic values. In Europe, the challenge is becoming increasingly clear: how to reconcile the drive for technological leadership with responsibility, trust, and the protection of fundamental principles. Drawing on the experience of the AgorAI Innovation Hub in Trieste, this event presents a concrete model of public-private collaboration, where businesses, institutions, and research organizations work together to transform AI into a driver of development capable of generating economic, social, and regional impact. Through contributions from academia and ecosystem partners, the discussion will explore an approach to governance in which innovation and responsibility are not seen as opposing forces, but rather as complementary levers for guiding strategic decision-making and strengthening the competitiveness of the European system.
