Vera Gheno
sociolinguist and professor University of Florence
A sociolinguist and translator from Hungarian, she collaborated with the Accademia della Crusca for 20 years. After 18 years working on a contract basis at various universities, she held the position of fixed-term researcher (Type A) at the University of Florence from late 2021 to the end of August 2026. Since June 2, 2026, she has been an Honorary Enterprise Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Her publications include “Femminili singolari. Il femminismo è nelle parole” (2021, effequ), “Grammamanti. Immaginare futuri con le parole” (2024, Einaudi), and “Nessunə è normale” (2025, UTET). “Genere” (Laterza, September 11, 2026) and “La lingua libera” (effequ, October 23, 2026) are her eighteenth and nineteenth monographs. She hosts the podcast “Amare Parole” for Il Post. Her work focuses primarily on digital communication, gender issues, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
