Carla Braitenberg

Professor Carla Braitenberg’s research focuses on the integrated use of satellite geodesy, gravimetry, crustal deformation measurements, remote sensing, and geophysical modeling to investigate environmental, hydrological, and climate-related processes. Her work combines observations from space and ground-based geodetic systems to improve the understanding of Earth system dynamics and their interactions. Research applications include natural hazard assessment and mitigation, geodynamics, monitoring of earthquakes and crustal deformation, sustainable water-resource management, the sustainable use of energy and mineral resources, and Earth observation. Her international scientific leadership includes serving as Chair of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) Working Group “Hydrologic Effects in Geodetic Observations” (2023–2027). Her research, teaching, and project activities contribute directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
