Andrea Lausi
SESAME scientific director
Andrea Lausi has been Scientific Director of SESAME since March 2020, on leave from the Italian synchrotron facility Elettra. He graduated in Physics from the University of Trieste with a thesis on phase transitions in two-dimensional systems studied by helium atom diffraction. His career has focused on synchrotron radiation. After joining Elettra in 1996, he worked on X-ray holography, three-dimensional atomic imaging, and high-pressure diffraction. He led the construction of the MCX powder diffraction beamline, which opened to users in 2008, and coordinated several international collaborations. He was responsible for the Indo-Italian high-pressure beamline XPRESS and at the same time coordinated Elettra’s communication activities. In 2019, he was elected Chair of the Public Awareness and Engagement with Research Infrastructures (PAERI) Working Group of the Association of European-Level Research Infrastructures Facilities (ERF-AISBL).
