Ruth Aylett è docente di Informatica presso la Heriot-Watt University di Edimburgo, in Scozia. Si occupa di intelligenza artificiale e robotica da 35 anni. Attualmente lavora su agenti sociali e interazione uomo-robot, inclusi robot di compagnia, modellazione affettiva e comportamento espressivo. Recentemente ha coordinato progetti sullo sviluppo di un tutor robot empatico e sulla valutazione dei robot come ausili all’elaborazione dei segnali sociali per adulti con autismo. Attualmente è a capo di un progetto che sviluppa un agente di narrazione intelligente per supportare la terapia della reminiscenza per gli anziani con demenza allo stadio iniziale, in ambiente domestico. Nel 2021 è stata co-autrice del popolare testo scientifico Vivere con i robot: ciò che ogni essere umano ansioso deve sapere (Penguin/Random).

Ruth Aylett is professor of Computer science at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has worked in AI and Robotics for 35 years. She currently works on social agents and human-robot interaction, including long-lived robot companions, affective modelling and expressive behaviour. She has led recent projects in the development of an empathic robot tutor and in evaluating robots as aids to social signal processing for adults with autism. She currently leads a project developing an intelligent story-telling agent to support reminiscence therapy for elders with early-stage dementia in a domestic setting. In 2021 she jointly authored a popular science book Living with robots: what every anxious human needs to know (Penguin/Random).
