Paul Ekins ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca in Economia presso l’Università di Londra ed è docente di Politica delle risorse e dell’ambiente presso l’UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, University College London. Nel 2011 è stato nominato vicepresidente del gruppo di esperti economisti di alto livello sull’efficienza delle risorse della DG Ambiente e nel 2012 è stato membro della piattaforma europea sull’efficienza delle risorse della Commissione europea. Nel 2013 è stato nominato membro dell’International Resource Panel (IRP) dell’UNEP, per il quale è stato autore principale di un importante rapporto sull’efficienza delle risorse su richiesta del governo tedesco al vertice del G7 nel 2015. E’ il coordinatore di un prossimo rapporto IRP sui minerali critici. Nel 1994 Paul Ekins ha ricevuto il Global 500 Award dell’UNEP “per eccezionali risultati ambientali” e nel 2015 un OBE per i servizi alla politica ambientale.

Paul Ekins has a PhD in Economics from the University of London and is professor of Resources and environmental policy at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, University College London. In 2011 he was appointed vice-chairman of the DG Environment Commissioner’s High-Level Economists Expert Group on Resource Efficiency, and in 2012 a member of the European Commission’s European Resource Efficiency Platform. In 2013 he was appointed to UNEP’s International Resource Panel (IRP), for whom he was lead author of a major report on resource efficiency at the request of the German government at the G7 Summit in 2015. He is now lead coordinating author for a forthcoming IRP report on critical minerals. He was one of two co-chairs of UNEP’s sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6), published in March 2019. In 1994 Paul Ekins received UNEP’s Global 500 Award ‘for outstanding environmental achievement’ and in 2015 an OBE for services to environmental policy.
