Matteo Mazziotta

Central Director for Sistan and the Territory at Istat, he holds a degree in Statistical and Economic Sciences and a PhD in Social Statistics, both from Sapienza University. He has been with Istat since 2000, first as a researcher and then as a Research Director, and led the “Survey Techniques and Data Collection Networks” Service, rethinking data collection techniques using Business Intelligence. In 2007, he devised the Mazziotta-Pareto index, which has been used by Istat since 2015 to measure the BES and, at an international level, by the UN, the OECD and the IMF. An adjunct lecturer for 20 years at Sapienza, Roma Tre and Tor Vergata, he served as Secretary-General of SIEDS (2017–2023) and has acted as a consultant to the UN, the OECD, ANAC, INAPP and SOGEI. The author of over 135 national and international publications, he has written four books on methodologies and techniques for measuring complex phenomena through the use of composite indices.
