Ifeoluwa Gbala
researcher ICGEB
Postdoctoral researcher at ICGEB Trieste, driven to unravel host–pathogen interactions and translate discoveries into impactful therapeutics. Her work spans microbiology, molecular and cell biology, biotechnology, and translational medicine, guided by curiosity and real-world impact. Her focus on innovation has led to two patent applications, including a plant-extract DNA tracking dye and a recombinant defensin expression system with antimicrobial applications. Beyond the lab, she mentors young women entering higher education through IDG Space and supports women in STEM via WISH, fostering inclusive scientific communities. Dr. Gbala cultivates collaborations in therapeutics, particularly in antimicrobial resistance and infection-driven cancers, and welcomes bold ideas that can drive meaningful change.
