Francesco Neri obtained his PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Siena and then worked as a postdoc at the Human Genetics Foundation (HuGeF) in Torino (Italy) and at the Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen (Netherlands), where he focused his research on DNA methylation, an epigenetic mark specific to stem cells, differentiation and colon cancer. He was subsequently appointed Group Leader of the “Epigenetics research group” at the Fritz Lipmann Leibniz Institute on Aging (FLI) in Jena (Germany). His research, supported by the prestigious Sofja Kovalevskaja Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, focused on the aging-dependent epigenetic aberrations that occur in adult stem cells and promote colon cancer. In 2021, Prof. Neri moved his laboratory to the University of Torino, where he is Full Professor of Molecular Biology and leads the research group Epigenetics of Aging & Cancer at the Molecular Biotechnology Center (MBC) in Torino. Prof. Neri’s current research focuses on inflammaging, intestinal aging, epigenetic drifts and how aging functionally affects the onset of colon cancer.
