Tommaso Boccali ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Fisica presso la Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa nel 2001 e attualmente è direttore di ricerca presso l’INFN a Pisa. Durante il suo dottorato di ricerca, ha iniziato a lavorare sul software e il calcolo dell’esperimento ALEPH al CERN, spostato sull’esperimento CMS, dove è stato prima vice coordinatore del software e successivamente membro delladirezione del calcolo di CMS, in particolare coordinatore delle attività in Italia. È stato successivamente coordinatore del software e del calcolo sempre per CMS e, più di recente, vice coordinatore dell’ upgrade. Attualmente è responsabile del progetto CNAF-reloaded, che mira all’integrazione delle risorse dell’INFN/CNAF nel Tecnopolo di Bologna. Dal 2022 è anche responsabile dello Spoke 2 del Centro Nazionale per i Big Data, l’HPC e il Quantum Computing.

Tommaso Boccali has a PhD in Physics from Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (2001) and he is currently director of research at the INFN in Pisa. During his PhD, he started to be involved in ALEPH’s experiment (CERN) software and computing, planning and deploying in 2000 the first Italian ALEPH farm based on Linux machines. After the PhD he moved to the CMS experiment where he was deputy software coordinator and soon later part of the CMS computing management, in particular coordinator for the activities in Italy. He has been software and computing coordinator for the CMS experiment, and more recently deputy upgrade coordinator for CMS. He is currently supervisor of the CNAF-reloaded project, aiming at the integration of INFN/CNAF resources within the Technopole in Bologna. He is since 2022 Spoke-2 leader for the National Center of Big Data, HPC and Quantum Computing.
