Pieter Glijnis

founder and chairman of the PLN Foundation

Pieter Glijnis is the founder and chairman of the PLN Foundation (since 2012), which grew out of his personal mission to accelerate research into a cure for the severe heart disease caused by the PLN p.(Arg14del) mutation. After his first arrhythmia in 2004, his condition rapidly worsened. In 2005, he underwent multiple life-saving defibrillations in Singapore. His health continued to decline, leading to the implantation of a ventricular assist device in 2008 and ultimately to a heart transplant in 2012. This life-changing experience gave him renewed purpose. Since then, he has been dedicated to advancing scientific collaboration, supporting patients and families, and driving the search for effective therapies. With a background in engineering, entrepreneurship, and governance, he connects patients, researchers, and institutions, mobilising knowledge and resources to work towards a cure for PLN-related cardiomyopathies.
