Erika Coppola

She graduated in Physics from the University of L’Aquila and obtained a PhD in Meteorology from the University of Reading. She is currently Head of the Earth System Physics section at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), where she has worked since 2006. She was an author of the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), where she coordinated the assessment of the regional impacts of climate change and contributed to the development of an updated risk assessment protocol; she will also coordinate a chapter of the forthcoming report. Her research focuses on the impact of climate change on extreme events and hazards at the regional scale, using high-resolution limited-area numerical models and impact models, such as hydrological models; she also explores the use of machine learning to develop climate emulators for regional-scale projections.
