Alex Presani is head of technology at AgorAI, the AI innovation hub based in Trieste and backed by Generali, Fincantieri, illycaffè, and Regione FVG, where they lead product strategy, engineering, and the development of specialized AI solutions for industry. Before returning to Italy, they spent two decades abroad across Amsterdam, Geneva, and New York, most recently at Meta FAIR, where they worked on AI safety and evaluation, contributing to Llama Guard and the MLCommons AILuminate risk taxonomy. Their earlier career spans arXiv, Cranium AI, and research in astroparticle physics, in which they hold a PhD. They speak regularly on trustworthy AI, algorithmic accountability, and European AI sovereignty, with a focus on building AI products that are specialized, responsible, and independent by design. They work in Italian, English, and French, and are happiest when a hard technical problem and a hard strategic problem turn out to be the same problem.
