Direttore Esecutivo di CERIC-ERIC, ha vasta esperienza nella gestione di infrastrutture di ricerca (RI): ha ricoperto (2006-2013) il ruolo di Direttore Associato e poi di Direttore Generale presso l’Institut Laue-Langevin di Grenoble, una struttura rinomata a livello mondiale per gli studi sui neutroni; poi, dal 2013 al 2022, ha guidato la Diamond Light Source, il sincrotrone del Regno Unito, supervisionando la sua transizione dalla costruzione alla piena operatività. Infine, dal 2022 al 2024, ha ricoperto il ruolo di Direttore Scientifico dell’Extreme Light Infrastructure.
Ha anche fornito un contributo sostanziale alla politica scientifica internazionale: ha presieduto sia l’EIROForum (2012-2013) sia l’ERF AISBL (2017-), che riuniscono le principali RI europee. In qualità di delegato del Regno Unito al Forum strategico europeo per le infrastrutture di ricerca (2014-2019) ha inoltre svolto un ruolo chiave nella definizione delle politiche e del quadro di valutazione delle RI europee.
Andrew Harrison
CERIC-ERIC Executive Director, has a wealth of expertise in managing and advancing world-class research infrastructures (RIs): from 2006 to 2013, he served as Associate Director for Science then Director General at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, a globally renowned neutron science facility; then, from 2013 to 2022 he successfully led the Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron science facility, overseeing its transition from construction to full operations. From 2022 to 2024, he served as Director of Science at the Extreme Light Infrastructure.
Prof. Harrison has also made substantial contributions to European and international scientific policy. He chaired both EIROForum (2012-2013) and the ERF AISBL (2017-), gathering Europe’s leading RIs beyond the EIROForum network. As the UK delegate to European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (2014-2019), he has played a key role in shaping policies and the evaluation framework for European RIs.
