Giorgio Vallortigara è professore di Neuroscienze presso il Centre for Mind-Brain Sciences dell’Università di Trento. È stato anche per vari anni Adjunct Professor presso la School of of Biological, Biomedical and Molecular Sciences dell’Università del New England, in Australia. È autore di più di 400 articoli scientifici su riviste internazionali (con oltre 32.000 citazioni) e di numerosi libri a carattere divulgativo, i più recenti “Pensieri della mosca con la testa storta” (2021), “Il pulcino di Kant” e “A spasso con il cane Luna” (2025) tutti pubblicati da Adelphi. In autunno uscirà il suo primo romanzo. Ha ottenuto il Premio internazionale Geoffroy Saint Hilaire per l’etologia e una laurea honoris causa dall’Università della Ruhr, in Germania. È Fellow della Royal Society of Biology.
Oltre alla ricerca scientifica svolge un’intensa attività di divulgazione, collaborando con le pagine culturali di varie testate, quali il Sole 24 Ore, Prometeo, la Lettura e Le Scienze.
Giorgio Vallortigara
Giorgio Vallortigara is Professor of Neuroscience and Director of the Animal Cognition and Neuroscience Laboratory at the Centre for Mind/Brain Sciences of the University of Trento, Italy.
He has published more than 3400 refereed papers, that have received more than 32,000 citations overall (h-index=100; source Google Scholar). He has contributed also to several books chapters, and is the author with L.J. Rogers and R.J. Andrew of the monograph “Divided Brains” (Cambridge University Press, 2013) and very recently of the book “Born Knowing” published by MIT Press (2021). His work has been rated several times in the Faculty of 1000 Biology and widely described in general science books of animal behaviour, cognitive science and neuroscience. He has been the recipient of several honors and prizes, including, among others, two ERC Advanced Grants, the Geoffrey de St. Hilaire Prize for Ethology, and a doctorate honoris causa from the University of Ruhr in Germany.
