Laureato in giurisprudenza, prima di dedicarsi al giornalismo e alla scrittura, milita nell'associazionismo ambientalista ed è tra i giovani animatori negli anni '90 dei Centri di Azione Giuridica della allora Lega per l'Ambiente. Ha scritto i soggetti e le sceneggiature di miniserie televisive per la Rai come Papa Giovanni, Madre Teresa, Papa Luciani, Il sorriso di Dio. Con lo pseudonimo di Elia Contini ha firmato la sceneggiatura della miniserie televisiva per Canale 5 Il generale Dalla Chiesa.Come giornalista lavora a Rai Radio 1, dove ha preso parte al programma Il viaggiatore in cui, tra le altre cose, ha curato un ciclo sulla modernità dei dieci comandamenti della Bibbia. Attualmente cura e conduce il programma Eta Beta, dedicato ai nuovi mestieri, alle nuove tecnologie e ai nuovi linguaggi. È anche autore e inviato al programma televisivo Codice su Rai1, sulle nuove frontiere del digitale, in onda nell'estate del 2018.
In passato ha lavorato a Paese Sera, L'Espresso, Italia Oggi e Tg3. Ha vinto il premio giornalistico Smau (1995), menzione speciale al premio Ilaria Alpi (1997 e 1998).
